Where'd all the new users come from?

Postby penrod on Mon Mar 23, 2009 9:07 pm

Well, as it turns out.... :)

I had a misconfiguration on my email server and the "welcome aboard" emails were getting kicked back about 25% of the time. The misconfiguration had always been there, but it looks like spam servers are getting better and was starting to block email because of it.

Perry and I noticed it last week. We fixed it and sent out new welcome aboard emails to all of the new users.

Ah, I gotcha. That explains why the bug became so evident! :)

Thanks Doc for finding all the new users!

John,
I found about 800+ DS registered on http://navysite.de/crew.php?action=search site which I sent e-mails.

Some were already registered on this site, some were redundantly registered on the navysite.de site and I could not tell how many had invalid e-mail addresses. Some DS's even thanked me for reminding them about this site, I am sure you may have had visits from some folks that have not been around for awhile.

Regards and you are welcome,

If you'd like, I can send out a site wide mass email to remind people about the site and rustle up some more users that have not been here in a while.

Did you look at the Together We Served site? I checked today, and found 919 DS's there.

Folks,
Over the past two weeks I sent out 908 "Together We Served" invites for this site. We added an additional 118 new registrations over the past two weeks.
I received many, "I am already a member and/or I should check back in" responses. I recognized some names from this site as frequent users and did not send them an invite. There were also a flock of redundant registrations on TWS.

Fyi, I did get a response from one person that because he is not a paid member, he cannot read his TWS e-mail. For those folks not paid, the seed has been planted if and when they become a paid TWS member.

Regards,
Doc K.

Today,
I completed sending membership notices to the DS's on http://navysite.de/crewlist/search.php? ... searchform aka Navybuddies.
There are about 600 DS's registered on the Navybuddies site and about 20% of those were already registered on this site. One has to send notices via their site e-mailer, so there is no indication when an e-mail is bounced. I wonder how many registered Navybuddies still have valid e-mail addresses listed?
