Ed,, I am sorry to hear of your loss. It sounds like he was a fine man and he raised a fine family. God bless him always. My prayers go out to you and your family.

I never knew my dad. My parents divorced when I was young and he died before I knew him. It was a loss that I struggled mightily with especially in my teen years. I got over the pain of never having a dad sometime,, when I cannot remember. I am sure in time you will get over the loss of your father. Rejoice knowing you had the time you had. You and all of your family are his legacy.

about a year ago I came across this website
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/shi ... story.html
where a WWII veteran recounts in approximately 200+ pages his time on the LST-481 which was built in Richmond CA,

"Henry Kaiser Shipyard in Richmond, California, also in San Francisco Bay. This shipyard built LSTs numbered 476 through 488"

one of I believe `15 LST built there in like 6 months , i printed the history for my Dad as he served on the LST-488 (also built in Richmond)
As a sentimental type he was favorably impressed by the story as related on the website...
