DSCM Dan McArdle (ret) is gone.

Postby arwinnett on Sun Jan 02, 2005 10:12 am

This morning Dan suffered a fatal heart attack. He is survived by his step-daughter Morgan, his sons Patrick and Tom, and his wife Jennifer. As more details are made available I will post them.

With regards,

:(

Terrible news! Dan was a great guy, great DS and great instructor. The world is definitely dimished with his passing.

Forgive my ignorance, but was he the same McArdle who was, I think, Senior Instructor (or some title like that) at DS"A" back in 1986? He was a 1st Class then. If so, I remember him as a really great guy who came in as a back-up once for my Phase II (again, I think) instructor when he had some emergency and had to leave. Always seemed happy and was one of the more approachable, less intimidating faculty.

Reply to Jim Engles:

Dan (Mac) was the DS "A" Phase 3 LPO during that time. It is very possible that he did as you recall.

I was just about to post the same message. Apparently, he had a heart attack. Bob came home from work with the sad news and said I should check and see if it had been posted here. May God bless him and keep him. His family is in our prayers.

Allen,

Thanks for your reply. Once I read your post I realized that it was, indeed, the same DS1 McArdle that I met. As I said before, he really seemed like a nice guy.

Now that I think about it, I remember hearing his name mentioned again when I was back on MI in 1988-89 for the NTU upgrade and that he'd made Chief.

I am not sure if I ever met Dan but I know I have heard of him over the last twenty years. It is sad to see someone so well thought of taken so early.

Whenever Mac was around, the moral was always high and the job always got done. Very sad that this has happened to such a nice guy.

I really do not know what to say. Mac was my mentor, but most important, my fishing buddy. I loved Dan McArdle, life without him in my life will not be the same.

I am very sorry to hear this, I remember him as always having a smile on his face and a kind word for his shipmates. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend his service, however, I will be sure to remember him in my thoughts and prayers.
