How about tonight?

We need to start making plans for with a hotel so we can get good rates.

August 10th weekend works for me. Let's broadcast it and get an informal head count so we can talk to a hotel intelligently.

I don't see a "vote" button anywhere, but I prefer 20 Jul.

I voted for July 27th but I would agree to the 20th to see my old friend Jeanne.

well, looks like August 10th is the weekend for the reunion. Will start calling hotels and checking on discounts and all that...locations, et cetera, and post accordingly. I will state now...for the record...that I will post names and numbers to hotels, but am not going to reserve rooms. it will be up to each of you who want to stay at the hotel to call and put your credit card down. Tammy got bit in the butt last year, and I took notes. It would be nice to get a head count, and will see what the admin Gods can do to facilitate that.

August 10th, 2007. ARE YOU READY TO RUMBLE!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Sounds good. I'll call the 2 hotels I named and find out what kind of rate we can get for Thursday through Monday. Any longer or out of that range would be on your own. Once we get a rate, we can have people make their own reservations using the group number and group rate.

BTW, flying SWA into Oakland is way cheaper than going into SFA or San Jose on other airlines. I can get round trips at $280 per from Chicago Midway. NON-STOP too.

thanks for that info on Oakland Rob...I am sure that will come in handy and might make it possible for people to attend who might not have been able to. ***just checked pricing, for me, Oakland is more expensive...so check them both for YOUR location****

I know I have talked to Aleisa about sharing a room (both going sans a man and or kids) so tossing out there that if any other women are going alone...if Aleisa can't make it, I will split the cost of a room... (and give the men something to ponder as a bonus!!!) Bev, Jeanne, Sue Bug, Wanda...just a thought.

I'm not volunteering yet, but I just did my wedding October 21, 2006, and the folks I worked with at a Super 8 were wonderful. They gave me a block of rooms at a less then military rate. I sent weekly updates of a roster with those attending. Any changes were taken care of immediately. HOWEVER, each member had to secure their room with their own credit card. They just had to call in and reserve a room in their name under the name of the party. Worked well.

Just my 2 cents.

So, has any of the Vallejo locals stepped up to the plate regarding hotel contacts/negotiations? I can do a lot from here in San Diego, but not sure if local denizen in better... Can we get a tentative head-count so that a rough idea of # of rooms required? Accomodations for 10-13 August sound about right? 2 places I have in mind are Marriott and Best Western Suites. Dennis, if you read this please e-mail me with any advice you have regarding how to approach hotel with this sort of request. Should we be able to get something akin to the gov't rate for "X" rooms?

OK, I will jump start this a little . . . as it seem to be languishing a bit.

You just call and most hotels will have a group event manager or similar. They’ll walk you through. You’ll want to ask how you can block rooms for an event, how long that block can be held, the discount it will give you and what they can offer the group. They’ll want to know the number of rooms, the dates, needs like meeting rooms and hospitality and any special needs.

Often, whomever is doing the block will need to leave their credit card on file. You’ll want to set it up so that each person pays on their own but hotels like to know your are being honest about the whole thing and often want a card.

They’ll block the rooms for say 30 or 60 days. In that folks have to reserve them at the agreed rate because at the end of the time period, the hotel will just sell the rooms to others.

Make sure they know individuals will pay.

To get a discount quote, you’ll need to honestly tell them how many to expect.

The Marriot Coutyard’s phone is 1-707-644-1200 and you will want to speak to Tanya Robertson.

The Best Western’s phone is 707-554-9655 and you will want to speak to Ray Cosca.

Though apparently the dates are set in stone, know that the area has a lot of events that impact the hotels. The Discovery Kingdom causes rooms to book in summer. There are NASCAR and other events that causes these hotels to fill and also for their rates in those time frames to go up. Blocking early is key to getting rooms and keeping the rate down.

You do very much need a head count to get the block done.

Whomever is calling these folks, we need to agree that is the only person calling them or it'll get to be a mess.

Ron, if you'd like to step up and do that, I think that it is 100% good!!!!
